THE SALARY

The local currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NT$). At current exchange rates, 30 NT = US$1.
  • Staff receive a basic salary of NT$20 000 which covers office admin and other basic duties, but which does NOT include pay for teaching hours. This is ADDITIONAL to your teaching pay.

AN AIRTICKET

A one-way international airticket (or equivalent in cash) will be provided for teachers who complete their full 12-month contract.

Note that tickets TO Taiwan are for the prospective teacher's own account.

HOURLY PAY

On top of the basic salary, teachers receive between 300NT and 500NT per hour of teaching, depending upon experience and qualifications. With an average of 100 teaching hours a month, you'd be earning a total of at least NT50 000 a month (that's more than US$1600).

About the salary and benefits...

ACCOMODATION

The school does not provide accomodation, though they will help to find an apartment if required. Arrangements for your first few nights in town can be made once you arrive at the school, and this will probably mean that you'll be put up in a local hotel.

DEDUCTIONS.

  • National tax of 20% will be deducted for the first six months (half of which is refundable) after which it will drop to 10% of your salary.
  • National Medical Scheme coverage (this provides you with a personal MedScheme card for use in Taiwan).
  • Compulsory national insurance.

HOLIDAYS AND LEAVE
These generally follow the school year and provide about ten days paid leave a year, in addition to all other Public Holidays.

CONTRACT & WORKING VISA

After you've had your Medical Check, the school will apply for a working visa on your behalf and provide you with a 12-month contract. Once the working visa is issued to you (which usually takes just under a month), you will be helped to apply for an Alien Registration Certificate (ARC) which is your local I.D document.

Please note that the recipient (that's you) is responsible for the costs of these applications (generally about NT1800).
