NATIONALITY
The positions are open only to passport-
holders from countries which are recognised by the Taiwanese authorities
as being 'English-speaking'. These are
-
the USA,
-
Canada,
-
New Zealand,
-
the UK,
-
The Republic Of Ireland,
-
South Africa,
-
Australia.
If you're NOT a passport-holder
of a country on the list above, then you aren't eligible for a teaching
position in Taiwan. |
|
QUALIFICATIONS
-
A University degree is a pre-requisite
- you're wasting your time applying for a job unless you have
one.
-
In addition, any TEFL or ESL qualifications
would be helpful.
-
No prior teaching experience is required.
-
Can't speak Chinese? Don't worry.
You'll pick it up as you go along, but it's not necessary in school - we're
English only.

AGE AND APPEARANCE
We welcome applications from anyone
over 21 and under 55.
As long as you're in the habit
of including a daily shower, shampoo, tooth-brushing and a change of clothes
in your personal routine, then you're fine. Dress in anything casual but
not sloppy. |
About the people
we need...
|
PERSONALITY
In addition to your native English
ability and your University degree, a friendly and vibrant personality
is crucial. If you're warm, outgoing and flexible, then you're all
set to succeed as a language instructor here.
It's important to realise that
you're in a completely different culture, so things will NOT be the same
as back home. |
HEALTH
The Authorities will grant working
visas only to applicants who have been given a clean bill of health. You
will be taken for a compulsory Medical Check within a day or two
of arrival, during which a full range of samples will be taken and tested.
Extensive drug usage, STDs or other dangerous, infectious diseases are
what they're looking for. The teacher is responsible for the cost
of the test (about NT1600) which the school will refund, unless the test
is unsatisfactory. |

FINANCIAL
STATUS
An unfortunate reality - under no
circumstances will a school bail you out if you arrive penniless. Please
ensure that you arrive in Taiwan with enough money to live for a month.
You will need about US$500 to tide you over until you receive your first
full month's salary. So, be liquid.
The school will happily discuss
an advance on your salary should you require one for a rental deposit on
an apartment/flat. |
